Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic sport that combines the flexibility and dynamics of gymnastics, the elegance of ballet and the rhythm and self-expression of dance with the handling of apparatus – small equipment such as Ribbon, Ball, Rope, Hoop and Clubs (see videos below). Gymnasts perform on a carpet to different styles of music either individually or in a group of five. The apparatus is fully integrated in the routine and it must be used with both hands, thrown into the air and kept in motion.
This elegant sport helps one express emotions inside of them, and is a great way to develop young kids’ creativity.
Training in rhythmic gymnastics provides conditioning, flexibility and rhythm essential for success in many other sports, as well, such as ballet, figure skating, swimming, and all forms of dance. Moreover, by showcasing skills and performing in public, the sport develops self-confidence and grace under pressure. Rhythmic gymnastics is a team sport, as well as an individual sport, so girls also learn about teamwork, respect and responsibility.
