Local Government Information
   Government structure in Greene County is mandated by the State of Tennessee. It complies with the default setup (Title 5) specified in the Tennessee Code. Very few Tennessee counties have their own constitution.

   The structure of Greeneville government is specified by its City Charter.

   Elections are held periodically to fill both bureaucratic and legislative positions. Citizens may, if inclined, vote and/or run for office.

   Few taxpayers in Greene County participate in the electoral process. Yet, elected officials determine the tax burden and influence the local economy.
